New car purchase

New Cars; BMW 3 Series

You can order now, but delivery won’t be until September for the latest BMW 3 Series. Prices start at £32,220 and this model uses the usual range of petrol and diesel engines with either four or six cylinders and BMW TwinPower Turbo in the petrol versions. Some buyers might be pleased to learn that a plug-in hybrid will join the model line-up next summer.  Touring comes in three trim levels: SE, Sport, M Sport, and a new M Sport Plus Edition exclusively for the UK market. At a time when the estate car is going out of fashion, as a prestige buy it remains very popular and the Touring will be a smart used buy in three years' time when the first driver’s PCP has expired.

New Cars; Audi RS5

If you don’t need that usefully big boot on the Touring, then the equally capacious Audi RS5 Sportback, or the more stylish coupe is now available in eye-catching Sport Edition specification. It has 20-inch alloy wheels anthracite finish with an Audi Sport exhaust. On the body there is privacy glass and high gloss black replacing the usual chrome. Inside, Fine Nappa leather and Alcantara combination upholstery with contrast diamond stitching for the RS super sports seats and a panoramic glass sunroof. There is all-LED lighting, the fully digital Audi Virtual Cockpit with RS-specific displays, the Audi Smartphone Interface bringing Apple Carplay and Android Auto.  With prices starting at £68,985, here is another model worth considering a few years time when you want some style but refuse to pay showroom fresh prices.

New Cars; Skoda Superb

Finally, there is all the German quality you would expect, combined with a badge, which keeps the price containable. However, the ŠKODA is no longer the poor relation with a lot of respect for building reliable and comfortable cars. The Superb is their flagship model featuring an updated interior and a host of clever new technologies. These models are even bigger than before with prices ranging from just £24,655 to £40,695.

It is no wonder that so many taxi drivers buy them, but best to buy one used with 300K miles on the clock. Find a well looked after company example, which will have depreciated to very affordable levels, but still looks like a credible luxury car.
